Pathology

Here at Summer Street Vet Clinic we can quickly and reliably run various pathology tests on blood, urine, faecal samples, aspirates or tissues samples to quickly and accurately help identify illness or monitor your pet’s health as our hospital is equipped with a comprehensive, state of the art, in-house laboratory. Laboratory testing is an essential part of veterinary care, from routine wellness checks to diagnosing complex conditions. Common tests include in house blood chemistry panels, haematology, urinalysis, faecal tests, and infectious disease screening. We can also assess biopsy samples and perform blood clotting assessments, or bacterial cultures to gain a clearer picture of what’s going on.

This capability is especially valuable when treating very ill or emergency patients, where every minute matters. Having results on hand during your pet’s visit helps our veterinarians make confident decisions and start treatment without delay as fast results mean faster answers and the best care for your pet.

For more specialised testing, such as histopathology for cancers, samples are sent to an external veterinary laboratory. These results typically return within 12–24 hours for bloodwork, or up to 10 days for biopsy results, depending on the test type. So whether it is testing is part of a routine health or senior check, or if your pet is unwell, we use in house testing to quickly get the answers we need so we can create the best possible treatment plan for your pet.
