Pet Dentistry
Just like us, pets need regular dental care to stay healthy and comfortable. Dental health has a big impact on your pet’s overall wellbeing, from their ability to eat happily to their energy levels and even their heart health. Imagine how your mouth would feel if you never brushed your teeth, or having a toothache but not being able to tell anyone!
Common signs of dental disease include:
- Yellow or brown tartar around the gums
- Red or inflamed gums
- Bad breath
- Changes in eating or chewing habits
- Pawing at the mouth or face
- Excessive drooling
- Pain or bleeding when you touch the mouth
If you notice any of these signs, it’s best to book a dental check with our team. Early treatment can prevent discomfort and help save your pet’s teeth. It’s also important to remember that some pets – especially cats – may not show obvious signs of dental pain, even when a problem is present.
Dental Cleans
A professional dental clean for pets is much like a scale and polish at the human dentist, but because our furry friends don’t sit still or say “ahh,” we perform it under general anaesthetic. This allows us to safely examine every tooth and clean thoroughly using specialised dental equipment.
Before the procedure, your vet will perform a full health assessment, including a physical exam and, if needed, blood or urine tests – to make sure your pet is fit for anaesthesia. Once the teeth are clean and your pet is awake again, we’ll guide you through simple ways to maintain their dental health at home and keep their smile shining.
At Summer Street Vet Clinic, we believe a healthy mouth means a happier pet, and we’re here to help make that happen.
