Pet Health Checks

Regular health checks help us keep your pet feeling their best. These visits are a great time to chat with us about nutrition, behaviour, or any other questions you have.

During a routine health check, we perform a thorough physical examination to assess your pet from nose to tail. We’ll check their heart and dental health, ensure they’re up to date with vaccinations, and carry out a parasite check to protect against fleas, ticks, worms, and other pests. When appropriate, we may also recommend blood and urine tests to get a clear picture of your pet’s overall health and detect any underlying issues early.

Senior Pets

As pets get older, their health needs change, and regular screening becomes even more important. For senior dogs (7+ years), as well as a routine health check, we will also check for signs of arthritis and any other age related concerns such as possibly weight loss and increased thirst. If we have any concerns, we will recommend further investigations such as chest radiographs (X-rays) to evaluate heart and lung health or blood tests to look for common signs of organ damage or hormonal changes so any potential issues can be detected early.

For senior cats (7+ years), we perform similar arthritis checks, along with kidney disease screening, thyroid testing, and blood pressure monitoring. These tests help us identify age-related conditions before they cause discomfort or serious illness, allowing for timely treatment and management.
At Summer Street Vet, we believe that prevention is always better than cure. Regular health checks give us the chance to catch small problems before they become big ones, helping your pet live a longer, happier, and healthier life by your side.
