Pet Vaccinations

Vaccinations are one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect your pet from serious, potentially life threatening diseases. We offer tailored vaccination programs for dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens and rabbits to keep them healthy and safe throughout every stage of life.

Puppy & Dog Vaccinations

Puppies are born with some temporary protection against disease, passed on through their mother’s milk. These antibodies fade within the first few weeks of life, which is why a series of vaccinations is needed to build strong, lasting immunity. The timing can vary from pet to pet, so your vet will recommend the best vaccination schedule for your puppy.

For adult and older dogs, the protection from the early puppy vaccinations fade with time so we strongly recommend annual health checks and booster vaccinations to help maintain your pet’s immunity and protect them for life.

Here at Summer Street Vet, we can vaccinate your dogs against:

  • Canine Parvovirus (very high risk here in Orange)
  • Canine Distemper Virus
  • Infectious Canine Hepatitis
  • Parainfluenza Virus
  • Bordetella Bronchiseptica (Kennel Cough)

Additionally, we can also vaccinate them with the Leptospirosis vaccine but as this is not routinely undertaken in Orange, arrangements need to be made prior to your dog’s appointment

Kitten & Cat Vaccinations

Kittens, like puppies, need a series of vaccinations to protect them as their natural immunity from their mother fades. Australia has one of the highest rates of Cat Flu and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) infection in the world, with around one in seven outdoor cats affected. Vaccination is especially important for cats that spend any time outside.

We vaccinate cats against:

  • Feline Panleukopenia Virus (Feline Enteritis or Feline Parvovirus)
  • Feline Calicivirus (‘Cat Flu’)
  • Feline Rhinotracheitis Virus
  • Chlamydia felis

And, if your cats are at risk, we can also vaccinate them against:

  • Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)

Come in and see us and we can discuss the best vaccination plan for your cat or kitten based on their lifestyle and risk.

After Vaccination Care

It is very rare to see vaccine reactions in pets however, if after vaccination, your pet feels a little tired or has mild tenderness at the injection site, do not be concerned. Access to food, water, and a comfortable resting place is usually all that’s needed for a quick recovery. However, if your pet seems unwell or their reaction appears more severe, please contact us for advice.

Rabbits

It’s important that rabbits also should have annual health checks to help detect problems early and keep them in good condition. Routine vet visits allow us to check their teeth, diet, weight, and overall wellbeing while vaccinations are vital to help protect them against highly contagious and fatal diseases such as calicivirus.

Keeping up with regular health care ensures your rabbit stays happy, healthy, and protected all year round.
