X-Ray & Ultrasound

Our modern diagnostic equipment allows us to see what’s happening beneath the surface. X-rays and ultrasound help us diagnose injuries and illnesses quickly, so we can start the right treatment sooner..

X-Rays (Radiographs)

Our hospital is fully equipped to take high-quality radiographs (often called X-rays) of your pet. These images are an important diagnostic tool that helps our veterinarians examine areas of the body we can’t see during a physical exam. X-rays are especially useful for identifying problems involving bones, the chest, or abdomen, such as fractures, arthritis, foreign objects, or organ changes.

Before we take any images, our vets will perform a thorough physical examination and discuss your pet’s symptoms with you to determine whether X-rays are needed. In most cases, pets are admitted into hospital for the day to have radiographs taken. We ask that you bring your pet in unfed on the morning of admission, as sedation or anaesthesia is usually required. This ensures your pet stays comfortable and allows us to capture the best possible images without movement.

Once the images have been reviewed, our team will contact you or schedule a time to go through the results and explain the diagnosis and treatment options.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is another valuable tool that allows us to look at your pet’s internal organs in real time. It uses harmless sound waves to create live images of soft tissues, such as the liver, kidneys, bladder, heart, and reproductive organs. Unlike X-rays, ultrasound doesn’t use radiation and is completely non-invasive.

Ultrasound is often used alongside radiographs to give a clearer overall picture of your pet’s health. Together, these tools allow us to make accurate, timely diagnoses — so your pet can receive the best possible care, sooner.
